Bulwell St Mary's Primary and Nursery SchoolWhere Your Journey Begins

RE

RE is taught on a weekly basis.  As a church school, we follow both the agreed Nottinghamshire syllabus and the Understanding Christianity programme of study.  A well-developed RE curriculum supports educating for dignity and respect, and encourages children to live well together.  This will enable every child to flourish and live life in all its fullness(John 10:10). Through high quality Religious Education lessons, children can connect with their peers, their school community and the wider world.  They will have opportunities to grow in wisdom, knowledge and skills enabling them to question and explore their own religious, spiritual and philosophical way of living.

Please see our 'RE at Bulwell St Mary's' document below for more details of what knowledge is covered in each year group.

Please note, parents have the right to withdraw their child/children from RE lessons.  Please contact the Headteacher to discuss this further.

The Big Frieze

Created by the artist Emma Yarlett ‘The Big Frieze’ illustrates seven of the eight core concepts that are explored in the Understanding Christianity materials. Effectively, this presents a view of the ‘big story’ of the Bible.  The Big Frieze is designed to make pupils aware of the wider context of each concept, unit and text studied in Understanding Christianity. Reminding pupils regularly of where a particular text occurs within the ‘big story’, by pointing it out on the Big Frieze, helps to build up a coherent understanding of the core concepts and the relationship between them.

Our children have recorded some of their work that they have undertaken around The Big Frieze.  Some of the examples of their work are below.
